august in dc.

August in DC  is can be a great time. Congress is on recess, traffic is almost non existent, vacations are happening. You get the picture. I, on the other hand, am busier than ever, like EVER. Yes, go figure in an off year, I am crazy busy. It's made August a blur for me, but I have been able to sneak out for some happy hours with girlfriends and many rezzies are made for next week's Restaurant Week.

Another puzzle piece to August is that DC is built on a swamp...literally. Between the oppressive humidity and mosquitoes, a girl can't get comfortable. This is why I love, I repeat, LOVE putting together a simple outfit, preferably a breezy dress, to transition from my igloo of an office to patio happy hours and dining al fresco.

I saw this dress and fell in love. Head over heels. Alice and Trixie is a favorite and those colors scream sweet summertime.

redecorating.

I'm moving in March. It will be quite the whirlwind, but I'm so excited for this next chapter of my life. I am lucky enough to be moving to a dream location in a beautiful condo.

Moving to me means decorating. You get a blank slate to decorate from fresh. It makes moving all the furniture worth it!

My new condo has all hardwood floors and I'm moving from a carpeted place, so that means I have been a mad woman looking for rugs.

This is the color palette I'm working with in my living room. I love my couch, but have always hated the pillows it came with so I have been slowly been replacing them with ones that incorporate the shades of blue and green above with hints of beige and tan.

I will have tons of windows in my new place to brighten up the space with natural sunlight. One of the things I'm looking forward to the most!

I'm looking forward to sharing my progress over the coming month!

the work bag.

DC is a sea of Longchamps and JPK's. I have been an offender, but am proud to say that I am recovering. The perfect work bag has always evaded me. It would be too small to carry my laptop (a must for my job), or the straps weren't long enough. The good thing is I found some great options out there for toting your necessities to work.

Work Bag

This Zara bag is my perfect bag. It does the job in a fashionable way that doesn't blend in to the wasteland of nylon bags that crowd the Metro platforms.

Check back next week to see what my must haves for my work bag  for all those commuting emergencies.

day to night.

Dinner and drinks just might be my favorite activity. I would even consider it a hobby. Most of the time I am meeting girlfriends after a long day at work. Margaritas or sangria sound pretty great when the clock strikes six o'clock. I'm a big fan of changing into some comfier clothes post work. This usually means changing into jeans or some skinny black pants for dinner. The blouse below would be great for a day of work and that transitions easily into dinner and drinks. I love the feminine look of this French Connection blouse and immediately started styling it in my head.

Blush Top One

I love skirts. There I said it. This is my office style in a nutshell. Pants just don't it do it for me for office wear. I also love the play on colors this outfit with the oxblood and mint--two colors that have been popular recently but aren't too much in this ensemble.

Blush set two

That bag and that jacket. In the words of Rachel Zoe, I DIE! I love this look for meeting my girlfriends to get tapas and sangria or a cozy wine bar. It would even work for a date night, lending comfort to fashion.

bonjour.

Let me introduce myself!

Who are you?

Wow, what a loaded question! I am a twenty-something professional living in the nation’s capital, Washington, DC. I grew up in the DC area (yes I am an endangered species) and have loved living here. Like many who live in this area, I am involved in the political arena. That said, this blog is my escape--when I’m not watching the news, staying apprised of every last poll out there, so politics won’t be showing up here. I am a firm believer that everyone is entitled to their own views and beliefs and respect is needed for all.

Why start a blog?

I wish there was an AHA! moment or a person I could point to, but there is not. The decision to start this blog was one that happened over time, two years to be more exact. I started off reading one single fashion blog daily and the list grew from there and expanded beyond fashion to home decorating, and lifestyle blogs as well. They came to be something that I could count on lifting my spirits when I had a bad day or needed a break from work. While I love reading each and every blog that I do so often (trust me it is now built into my morning routine with my coffee), I wanted to find my own way in the blogging world and start putting my own ideas out there.

That being said, these are my personal thoughts and ideas, a creative outlet, and I don’t expect everyone to agree with them.

What’s going to be on here?

I love fashion, makeup, and interior design. So those will be front and center, but I’m not ruling anything out that should spark my creativity.

Thanks for stopping by, I can’t wait to start this journey!
